⚠ One Kind of CustomerModerate threat
KLA (KLAC) — threat to the moat
Leading-edge logic is a handful of buyers, and their timing moved KLA's Taiwan revenue down 30% and then up 110% in three years.
A franchise paid four-fifths by foundry and logic1 is paid by very few buyers. The companies that build chips at the newest logic nodes are few, and KLA's revenue from Taiwan alone swung from $2,493.4 million in fiscal 2023 to $1,738.1 million in fiscal 2024 and $3,643.7 million in fiscal 202623.
That swing, a fall of 30% and then a rise of 110%4, came from timing decisions at a few customers, not from any change in KLA's position.
KLA's filings name the concentration as a principal risk: its release lists "our vulnerability to a highly concentrated customer base"5.
The Taiwan figures also show how quickly a region can double. Revenue shipped there went from $1,738.1 million in fiscal 2024 to $3,205.4 million in fiscal 20256, a rise of 84.4%7. The same speed works downward, as fiscal 2024 showed.
The concentration shows in what customers owe as well as in what they buy. At the end of March 2026 three customers each held more than 10% of KLA's net receivables8. When a handful of buyers hold most of the unpaid bills, a payment delay at one of them reaches KLA's cash in the same quarter.
The list of large logic buyers has narrowed. In fiscal 2015 Intel was one of three customers each above 10% of KLA's revenue9; since fiscal 2024 the 10-K has named only TSMC10.
The threat is not losing these customers but depending on their calendars. A year in which Taiwan revenue fell by a third again would show how much of KLA's growth is one region's construction schedule.
