KLA (KLAC) — the variant view

KLA reported a record $3.66 billion quarter with every segment growing, and its shares fell 8.9% because the guide was not higher still.

KLA's June 2026 quarter was a record that the market did not reward. Revenue was $3,657.6 million, up 7.1% from the March quarter and 15.2% from a year earlier12. Net income was $1,363.1 million and diluted earnings $1.04 a share after the split, or $1.05 on KLA's non-GAAP measure3.

Process control up 13%; packaging-led PCI up 56%.

All three segments grew. Process control revenue was $3,256.8 million, up 13.2%45; PCB and Component Inspection rose 56.5% to $241.1 million67; Specialty Semiconductor Process brought in $159.7 million8. Service revenue was $820.4 million, up 16.8%910. The GAAP gross margin was about 61.4%11.

China was a smaller share. It was 26.2% of the quarter's revenue12, against 29.8% for the year13.

Cash was held back by growth. Free cash flow was $817.1 million, and KLA returned $876.3 million, $571.0 million in buybacks and $305.3 million in dividends14. Receivables took $586.5 million of cash and inventories $212.3 million, while deferred system revenue added $312.1 million15.

The guide was higher: $4.0 billion plus or minus $200 million for the September quarter, and GAAP earnings of $1.14 a share plus or minus $0.1016. Analysts had expected $3.93 billion, and the shares sank 8.9% after the report17.

On KLA's non-GAAP measure, fiscal 2026 earnings were $4,959.4 million, or $3.76 a share, against $4,451.7 million and $3.33 a year earlier18. The gap to GAAP is small because KLA took no impairment in fiscal 202619, unlike the two previous years.

The next report, due around 28 October20, tests the guide. Revenue at $4.0 billion with receivables no longer rising faster than sales would show the record quarter turning into cash.
