US GovernmentNarrow moat

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) — moat facet

The US government is Palantir's largest customer, counted as many agencies, and its orders nearly doubled in a year after the Army consolidated its contracts.

US government is Palantir's largest single revenue line and its oldest. It sold $1.855 billion in 2025, up 55%1, about 41% of revenue2, and $809 million in the second quarter of 2026, up 90%3.

Nearly doubled in a year.

Inside it are federal departments and agencies, each counted as a separate customer: the 10-K says of civilian agencies "we treat each of those agencies as a separate customer"4. The largest known relationships are military: the Army's enterprise agreement, which consolidated 75 contracts with a ceiling of up to $10 billion56, the Maven Smart System, whose ceiling was raised to nearly $1.3 billion through 20297, and the TITAN ground station8.

The history begins with Palantir's founding for the intelligence community in the United States9 and a 2018 court ruling that required the government "to consider commercially available products"10. The line was $678.2 million in 202111, $826.3 million in 202212, $921.2 million in 202313 and about $1,197.9 million in 202414.

It is paid under government contracts that often run for years but can be ended for convenience15, and it follows the federal fiscal year, which ends on 30 September16.

Profitability is disclosed for the government segment, which includes allied governments. Its contribution margin was 66% in 202517 and 71% in the second quarter of 202618, against 12% in 201819.

Growth was 22% in 202220, about 11.5% in 2023 and 30% in 202421, and 55% in 202522. The quarterly pace has accelerated through 2026: $687 million in the first quarter, up 84%23, and $809 million in the second. The outlook depends on the Army agreement's orders and on Maven's transition into "a formal program of record"24.

This line is a narrow moat that Congress can widen or narrow. The verdict would change if its growth fell back to the 11.5% of 202325 while defence budgets grew, because that would mean the consolidated agreements had stopped expanding Palantir's share of the work.

Moat trajectory: Widening

Growth accelerated from 55% (2025) to 90% (Q2 2026).

The number that tests this moat
Reported
US government revenue growth, full year
+55% to $1,855M (2025)

Federal spending on the platform; a return to low double digits would mean the consolidations have stopped adding work.
