⚠ Budgets, Priorities and September 30Moderate threat

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) — threat to the moat

About 42% of Palantir's revenue depends on American government budgets, which no product advantage can protect.

Palantir's largest customers answer to legislatures. The 10-K warns that "there may be a decline in the U.S. and other government budgets, changes in spending or budgetary priorities, or delays in contract awards"1, and that many contracts can be terminated for convenience2.

Two-fifths of revenue answers to Washington.

The American government's calendar shapes the business. Palantir has noted that US government customers have "a fiscal year end of September 30"3, so awards cluster around that date and delays in appropriations push revenue between quarters.

The exposure is large. US government revenue was $1.855 billion in 20254, about 41% of Palantir's total5, and $809 million in the second quarter of 2026, about 42%6.

A budget cut would not destroy the relationships. Programmes of record and consolidated agreements would survive. But they would shrink, and no product advantage could prevent it.

Here the share of US government revenue in the total tells the story. At about 42% it has been roughly stable for three years; a year in which it falls because government revenue itself declines would show the budget risk has arrived.
