The United States Government, Agency by AgencyNarrow moat
Palantir Technologies (PLTR) — moat facet
Palantir counts government agencies as separate customers, but about 41% of its revenue answers to one Congress.
Palantir's largest client is the United States government, and its filings count it in pieces. Of civilian agencies such as the FDA, CDC and NIH, the 10-K says "we treat each of those agencies as a separate customer"1. That is a reasonable convention, and it means the customer count overstates how many independent buyers Palantir has.
In aggregate the exposure is large. US government revenue was $1.855 billion in 20252, about 41% of the total3, and $809 million in the second quarter of 2026, about 42%4. The whole government segment, including allied states, was $2,402.3 million in 2025, 54% of revenue5.
The agencies do behave as separate buyers in one respect: each has its own budget and procurement. The Army's enterprise agreement, Maven and civilian health work are negotiated separately. But all of them are funded by the same Congress.
The segment has grown steadily since the listing. Government revenue was $610.2 million in 20206 and nearly four times that in 202578.
The American government's buying accelerated through 2026. US government revenue was $687 million in the first quarter, up 84%9, and $809 million in the second, up 90%10. The line most exposed to budgets accelerated rather than slowed.
The dependence can be read in one ratio. It has stayed between about 41% and 44% for five years11; if it rises because commercial growth slows, Palantir becomes more of a government contractor; if it falls because commercial keeps outgrowing, the dependence is being diluted the healthy way.
US government near 41-42% of revenue for five years.
Dependence on one government's budgets; a rise from slower commercial growth would make Palantir more of a contractor.
