Palantir Technologies (PLTR) — moat facet

Palantir went from 80 American business customers to 653 in under five years, and each one spends more than the last.

The commercial business in the United States is where Palantir's bootcamp method has worked best. It had 80 US commercial customers at the end of 2021 and 143 a year later1, 221 at the end of 20232, 571 at the end of 20253 and 653 by June 20264, about eight times the 2021 count5.

About eight times as many American business customers since 2021.

Revenue grew faster than the customer count. US commercial revenue was $335.1 million in 20226 and $1.465 billion in 2025, up 109% in the last year7. In the second quarter of 2026 it was $764 million, up 149%8.

That combination means both more customers and more spending per customer. The companies Palantir signs come from "approximately 90 industries"9, so the growth is not a single sector's boom. The commercial segment's contribution margin reached 78% in the second quarter of 202610.

This is the part of Palantir that looks least like a government contractor and most like a software company. It is also where the company's stated targets are most aggressive: US commercial revenue is guided above $3.424 billion in 2026, growth of at least 134%11, a bet explored on The Future Bets page.

The additions have been steady, not a single burst. The US commercial customer count grew 49% in the year to December 2025, to 57112, after 55% growth from 143 to 221 in 2023131415. A method that converts at similar rates year after year is a system rather than a fashion.

Watch the customer count rather than revenue here, because it grows more steadily. A count still rising by about a third a year says the method keeps working on new companies; a count that flattens while revenue grows would mean Palantir is selling more to the same customers, which is good for margins and a warning for the long run.

Moat trajectory: Widening

US commercial customers +35% and revenue +149% in Q2 2026.

The breadth of the commercial franchise; a count that stops growing would mean new companies no longer convert.
