⚠ Oracle Health Is Not Yet at Double DigitsModerate threat
Oracle (ORCL) — threat to the moat
Oracle promises double-digit growth for Oracle Health in fiscal 2027, which tells you it is not growing that fast now.
Oracle's most recent annual results contained a promise and a confession in the same sentence. The company said its new AI patient care management system would push the growth rate of the overall Oracle Health business "to double-digits in fiscal year 2027"1. A business already growing at double digits would not need pushing.
Oracle does not disclose Oracle Health revenue separately in its recent filings. The last figure is from the year of the acquisition: $5.9 billion contributed in fiscal 20232. Since then it has been folded into cloud applications, licences, support and services.
The competitive field is crowded. Oracle's annual report lists Allscripts, Arcadia, athenahealth, Epic and InterSystems among its healthcare competitors3. The Competitors page looks at that contest.
The money at stake is on the balance sheet. The Cerner deal added $18,618 million of goodwill4, and a business growing slowly for years can eventually fail an impairment test.
The measure of patience is the goodwill test. Oracle's goodwill was $62,261 million at the end of May 20265, and it has recognised no impairment in fiscal 2025 or 20246. An impairment of the Cerner goodwill would be the formal admission that the price was too high.
The promise has a date. If Oracle does not report double-digit Oracle Health growth for fiscal 2027, a $28.2 billion acquisition will have become a steady, slow franchise, and the goodwill will start to look generous.
