⚠ Support Revenue Stalled for a YearLow threat
Lam Research (LRCX) — threat to the moat
Lam's customer support revenue went sideways for four quarters in fiscal 2025 while new-tool sales rose 44%, a reminder that the annuity has its own cycle.
Spares and service are supposed to grow with the fleet, but in fiscal 2025 they did not. Quarterly customer support-related revenue was $1,775.2 million in the September 2024 quarter, $1,750.4 million in December, $1,684.9 million in March and $1,733.8 million in June 2025123. Over the same four quarters systems revenue rose from $2,392.7 million to $3,437.6 million45, about 44%6.
Lam did not give a single reason for the pause. Customer support includes Reliant tools and upgrades as well as spares7, and those capital purchases can slow while running fabs keep buying parts.
The line recovered strongly in fiscal 2026, to a record $2,472.4 million in the June quarter8. The stall is a reminder that the installed-base business follows customers' budgets as well as their chambers.
The low point was the March 2025 quarter, when customer support was $1,684.9 million, 35.7% of revenue910. Within fifteen months it was 47% higher11.
The test is whether the recovery holds. A second year like fiscal 2025, flat support revenue while the installed base grows, would say more of the parts and service work is going to others.
