The Customers in ChinaThin moat

Lam Research (LRCX) — moat facet

Lam's Chinese revenue comes from two kinds of customer, and in the June 2026 quarter the multinationals grew while domestic Chinese chipmakers shrank.

China is Lam's largest market by location, but the customers there are two different groups. The 10-K says the China figure "includes global customers and domestic Chinese customers with manufacturing facilities in China"1. The first group, multinationals running fabs in China, is largely unaffected by export rules; the second is where the rules bite.

Down 17 points in four quarters.

The split moved sharply in fiscal 2026. China was 43% of revenue in the September 2025 quarter, 35% in December, 34% in March and 26% in June2345. Management said "within China, the global multinational customers grew sequentially, while the domestic customer base declined"6.

The decline was expected. In January 2026 Zacks reported that Lam expected China to fall below 30% of revenue in 20267, and the chief financial officer said China wafer fab equipment spending would be "flat to slightly up"8. Lam is shipping less there because it is allowed to ship less, not because Chinese fabs are buying less.

For the full year China was still $7,859.8 million, 33.8% of revenue910. That is the largest single region, and no single Chinese customer appears in the 10-K's list of most significant customers.

China revenue has been larger than any other region's in every fiscal year since 20211112. Even at 26% of the June 2026 quarter, it was nearly level with Taiwan's 27%13.

Over twelve years China has grown more than any other region. Lam's revenue there was $623.4 million in fiscal 201414 and $7,859.8 million in fiscal 202615, more than twelve times as much16.

The quarterly China share is the number to follow. If it settles near a quarter of revenue, the domestic losses are absorbed; if it keeps falling after the export rules stop changing, Lam is losing Chinese customers to domestic toolmakers rather than to Washington.
