America Doubled in a YearNarrow moat
Applied Materials (AMAT) — moat facet
Applied's American revenue doubled in a year to 15% of the total as chipmakers built at home.
The market growing fastest for Applied in 2026 is its home. Revenue from the United States was $1,367 million in the quarter to July 2026, against $683 million a year earlier1, about double2. Its share of revenue rose from 9% to 15%3.
In fiscal 2025 the United States was only $3,063 million of Applied's $28,368 million4; 89% of revenue came from abroad5. The quarter to July suggests that is changing as chipmakers build factories in America.
Applied is well placed for this. Its long-lived assets are overwhelmingly American, $5,071 million of $5,337 million in fiscal 20256, and its research centre is in Silicon Valley.
American customers also remove an export question: machines that stay in the United States need no Chinese licence. Europe grew fast too, from $160 million to $483 million in the same quarter7.
Other regions grew too. Japan rose to $839 million from $713 million in the quarter, and Southeast Asia to $374 million from $195 million8. The growth is spreading beyond the two largest customers' home countries, which would slowly reduce the concentration described on these pages.
America is still a small market for Applied. Even after doubling, the United States was 12% of nine-month revenue in fiscal 20269, behind China, Taiwan and Korea. The change matters less for its size than for its direction: it is the one large market where export rules help rather than hurt.
The domestic build is a new source of demand, not yet a large one. If the American share of revenue holds above 12% through fiscal 2027, the onshoring is real; a return to single digits would say it was a few projects.
US revenue $683M to $1,367M, Q3 year on year.
The onshoring build; a return to single digits would mean it was a few projects.
