⚠ The Application Suite Is ShrinkingModerate threat
Cisco Systems (CSCO) — threat to the moat
The application-monitoring suite Cisco bought through AppDynamics and Splunk shrank in fiscal 2026.
The headline growth in observability hides a decline in the part that competes most directly with specialists. Cisco reported that the category's growth was "partially offset by a decline in our observability suite offerings"1.
As a share of Cisco the line has stopped rising. Observability was about 1.1% of revenue in fiscal 2022, 1.6% in fiscal 2024, 1.9% in fiscal 2025 and 1.7% in fiscal 20262.
Cisco is responding with acquisitions: Galileo Technologies in the fourth quarter3. Buying a small company to refresh a product bought through two larger ones is a pattern worth noting.
The competitors are growing their own lines. Cisco's filing names Datadog and Dynatrace4, and it dropped New Relic from the list in fiscal 20265. The specialists' pitch is that monitoring should be independent of any one infrastructure vendor, which is the opposite of Cisco's bundle argument.
The sign to watch is Cisco's description of the suite in the next 10-K. If the suite declines again, the application-monitoring business Cisco paid for is being replaced by its competitors at its own customers.
