$9.3 Billion of Hyperscaler OrdersNarrow moat

Cisco Systems (CSCO) — moat facet

Cisco's hyperscaler AI orders went from about $2 billion to $9.3 billion in a year, and $4 billion of that came in the last quarter.

The cleanest evidence that Cisco has re-entered the largest data centres is its order book from the cloud providers. In fiscal 2025 AI infrastructure orders from webscale customers exceeded $2 billion, "more than double the original $1 billion target"1. In fiscal 2026 they were $9.3 billion2.

AI infrastructure orders from hyperscalers, FY2026 ($bn)1.3Q12.1Q21.9Q34.0Q4Cisco quarterly results releases FY2026; Q3 calculated from year-to-date
Four billion in the final quarter.

The orders came in accelerating steps: $1.3 billion in the first quarter3, $2.1 billion in the second4, about $1.9 billion in the third56 and $4 billion in the fourth7. After the third quarter Cisco raised its expected fiscal 2026 orders to $9 billion from $5 billion8.

What the hyperscalers buy is Silicon One based switching and routing systems and optics9. The call added that all four big hyperscalers grew triple digits in the fourth quarter and that Cisco had three design wins for its P200 system with three different hyperscalers10.

An order is a promise, not revenue; the next page shows the gap.

The orders were a small part of Cisco only two years ago. Fiscal 2025's AI infrastructure orders of just over $2 billion11 were about 3.5% of that year's revenue12; fiscal 2026's $9.3 billion were about 14.7%13. Few businesses inside a $63 billion company grow fourfold in a year.

The quarterly order figure is the number that matters. Orders staying at or above $4 billion a quarter through fiscal 2027 would show this is a franchise, not a single wave of buying.

Moat trajectory: Widening

Orders $4bn in Q4 FY2026; FY2027 AI revenue guided to $7.5bn.

The number that tests this moat

Hyperscaler AI orders, latest quarter
$4bn (Q4 FY2026); $9.3bn for FY2026

Demand from the largest data centres; quarterly orders well below $4bn would mean the wave has crested.
