One Distributor, 19% of ReceivablesNarrow moat

Palo Alto Networks (PANW) — moat facet

One distributor owes Palo Alto 19% of its receivables, more than its share of revenue, and longer payment terms add to that.

The distributor that matters most to Palo Alto's balance sheet is more concentrated than its revenue share. At 31 July 2026 "one distributor individually represented 19 % of our gross accounts receivable"1, against the 15% share of revenue held by each of the two largest distributors2.

Credit exposure has fallen sharply.

The exposure used to be much larger. In fiscal 2025 three distributors held 44.8% of gross receivables3, and in fiscal 2019 three held 29.9%, 18.9% and 14.2%4.

Receivables are money owed, and a distributor that fails leaves the unpaid balance with Palo Alto. The longer payment terms introduced in fiscal 2026, up to 75 days5, increase that exposure, because more of each distributor's orders are outstanding at any time.

Palo Alto's distributors are large, established companies, and the risk of one failing is low. But this is where the channel concentration shows up in dollars rather than percentages.

The largest distributor's share of receivables, 19%6, is also a timing measure: receivables at a year end reflect the orders placed in the last weeks of the fiscal year, which for Palo Alto is its largest quarter. Fourth-quarter revenue was $3,410 million7, about 30% of the year8.

With one distributor at 19% of receivables9, a rise above 25% would mean the longer terms are concentrating credit risk on a single intermediary.

Moat trajectory: Widening

Three at 44.8% of receivables (FY2025) to one at 19% (FY2026).
