Half the Revenue Outside the United StatesNarrow moat
Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) — moat facet
Thermo Fisher earns half its revenue outside the United States and employs more people abroad than at home, which suits customers who are global themselves.
Thermo Fisher sells about as much abroad as at home. In 2025 revenue from the United States was $22,240 million and from everywhere else $22,316 million1. By customer location, North America was $23,033 million, Europe $11,826 million, Asia-Pacific $8,101 million and other regions $1,597 million2.
The people and plants are spread the same way. Of approximately 125,000 colleagues, about 59,000 are in the Americas, 22,000 in Asia-Pacific and 44,000 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa3. Long-lived assets were $6,547 million in the United States and $5,465 million elsewhere4.
A global footprint matters to customers that are global themselves. A pharmaceutical company running trials and manufacturing on several continents can buy from one supplier in each.
The regions are moving differently now. In the second quarter of 2026 North America grew low single digits while Europe and Asia-Pacific grew high single digits5, and Europe's revenue was $3,311 million6.
Europe has been the fastest of the large regions. Revenue from European customers was $10,741 million in 2023 and $11,826 million in 2025, while North America went from $22,764 million to $23,033 million7. That is 10.1% growth in Europe against 1.2% in North America over two years8. Asia-Pacific grew from $7,873 million to $8,101 million9.
Asia-Pacific grew high single digits in the second quarter of 2026, with China growing low single digits inside it10, so the region is growing without depending on its largest market.
The facet weakens if Europe and Asia slow back to the American pace, leaving the company reliant on one market. Europe's quarterly revenue is the figure to watch.
Non-US revenue $22,316M against US $22,240M in 2025.
The fastest-growing large region; a slowdown to the American pace would leave the company reliant on one market.
