Commercial: $44.1 Billion, Up 8%Narrow moat
Dell Technologies (DELL) — moat facet
Business PCs are still Dell's biggest line at $44 billion, and their recent growth came from richer machines rather than a bigger market.
The business most people associate with Dell, selling PCs to companies, remains its largest single revenue line. Commercial client revenue was $44,062 million in fiscal 2026, up 8% from $40,844 million1, and larger than the whole AI server line. Dell says the increase was "primarily due to an increase in units sold and richer configurations"2.
The line had shrunk before it recovered. Commercial revenue was $45,576 million in fiscal 2022 and $45,556 million in fiscal 2023, then fell 13% to $39,814 million in fiscal 20243. Fiscal 2026 left it still about 3% below fiscal 20224.
Commercial buyers behave differently from consumers. They buy fleets, on contracts, with support and management software attached, and they replace machines on schedules. Dell's direct sales force and channel partners are built for that customer. It is the part of the PC business where Dell's scale and relationships still count.
The second quarter of fiscal 2027 was unusually strong: commercial revenue of $13,192 million, up 22% from $10,781 million5. With IDC reporting Dell's PC shipments down 5% in the same calendar quarter6, much of that growth must be price and configuration rather than units.
Commercial is now almost the whole of Dell's PC business. It was about 86% of client revenue in fiscal 2026, $44,062 million of $50,984 million78, and the client segment as a whole grew about 5%9. Whatever moat Dell has in PCs lives in this line.
Commercial PCs are a mature franchise with a customer base that renews. Follow the quarterly revenue, $13,192 million in the latest quarter10; if it falls back below $11 billion once component prices ease, the recent strength was price pass-through rather than a refresh cycle.
Commercial +8% in FY2026, +22% in Q2 FY2027.
The core PC franchise; a fall back below $11bn as component prices ease would show the growth was price.
