✦ Twelve Percent a Year, the Investor Day PromiseNarrow moat

Bank of America (BAC) — the future bets

Bank of America met a ten-year plan of 10-12% EPS growth and has now promised 12% or more.

At its November 2025 investor day Bank of America replaced a decade-old set of targets with harder ones. The previous model, used from 2015 to 2024, aimed for 10% to 12% earnings per share growth and a 12% to 15% return on tangible common equity; the new one aims for 12% or more and 16% to 18% over three to five years12.

The old plan delivered about 11% a year.

The old targets were met. Diluted earnings per share rose from $1.31 in 2015 to $3.81 in 20253, about 11.3% a year4, helped by a share count that fell about 31.6%5.

The first half of 2026 ran ahead of the new plan. Diluted earnings per share were $2.31 against $1.796, and management raised its guide for full-year operating leverage to 300 to 400 basis points7.

The plan's weak point is that it assumes the good conditions of 2026 persist. Net interest income growth depends on the forward curve, and trading revenue on busy markets.

The share count does part of the work. Common shares outstanding fell from 7.61 billion at the end of 2024 to 7.21 billion at the end of 2025 and 7.02 billion in June 202689, so earnings per share can grow faster than net income as long as the buybacks continue.

The yearly EPS growth rate is the scorecard. Two full years at 12% or more would confirm the new model; a year in which earnings grew under 10% would put it back to the old one.

Moat trajectory: Widening

H1 2026 EPS $2.31 vs $1.79.

Progress against the 12%-plus growth target; a slowdown below that pace would mean the plan was running on 2026 conditions.
