CrowdStrike (CRWD) — threat to the moat

CrowdStrike's own annual report says the July 2024 outage is expected to keep harming its sales and reputation.

CrowdStrike does not describe the outage as behind it. Its fiscal 2026 annual report says: "The July 19 Incident has harmed, and is expected to continue to harm, our business, sales, customer and partner relations, and our reputation"1.

Net July 19 costs by period ($M)60.1FY2025117.7FY20263.6H1 FY2027CrowdStrike Q4 FY2026 and Q2 FY2027 results releases
The second year cost more than the first.

The costs have not stopped either. Net costs associated with the incident were $60.1 million in fiscal 2025 and $117.7 million in fiscal 20262, higher in the second year than the first. In the first half of fiscal 2027 they were $3.6 million net, after an insurance recovery in the second quarter3.

Risk-factor language is written by lawyers and tends to be cautious. But it is written about specific risks the company sees, and this one names sales and partner relations, not only legal costs.

The measure is the incident cost line. If net costs return above $20 million in any quarter, the harm the company warns of is still arriving in cash, not only in words.
