Ten Point Seven Billion Dollars Under ContractWide moat
CrowdStrike (CRWD) — moat facet
CrowdStrike has $10.7 billion of signed revenue waiting, about two years of sales, though less of it now arrives within a year.
CrowdStrike's customers have signed for far more than they have yet been billed. Remaining performance obligations, contracted revenue not yet recognised, were $10.7 billion at 31 July 20261. They were $3.4 billion at January 20232, $4.6 billion at January 20243, $6.5 billion at January 20254 and $9.0 billion at January 20265.
That is about two years of revenue at the trailing rate of $5.40 billion6, locked in by contracts that are mostly non-cancelable7. For a subscription business it is the clearest measure of committed future demand.
The shape has changed as it grew. The company expects to recognise about 46% of the July 2026 figure within twelve months8, against 63% of the January 2023 figure9. The portion due within a year is therefore about $4.9 billion10, and the rest is further out.
Longer contracts are a mixed signal. They lock customers in for longer, which is the point of a moat. But they also come partly from the customer commitment packages, which extended subscription terms after July 202411, and from Falcon Flex commitments drawn down over time.
The long end is not very long. The company expects the majority of the non-current obligations to be recognised over the following 13 to 36 months12, so most of what lies beyond the first year falls in years two and three, the length of a typical contract.
The contract book is the backbone of the bull case and the number to follow is its near-term part. The portion due within twelve months, about $4.9 billion at July 2026, should grow at least as fast as revenue; if it grows more slowly while total RPO keeps rising, the book is lengthening faster than it is filling.
RPO $3.4bn (Jan 2023) to $10.7bn (Jul 2026).
Committed future revenue; the part due within a year should grow at least as fast as revenue.
