CrowdStrike (CRWD) — threat to the moat

Less than half of CrowdStrike's $10.7 billion contract book is due within a year, down from 63% in 2023.

The share of CrowdStrike's contract book that becomes revenue within twelve months has fallen every year it has been reported: 63% at January 20231, 60% at January 20242, 53% at January 20253, 51% at January 20264 and 46% at July 20265.

The long-dated part grew fastest.

So the headline figure flatters near-term growth. Total RPO rose about 18.9% in the six months to July 20266, but more than half of it, about $5.8 billion7, is not expected within a year.

The company's own words point to one cause: the customer commitment packages brought "elongated subscription terms"8. Falcon Flex commitments, drawn down over time, are another.

Near-term RPO is the figure that matters, about $4.6 billion at January 2026 and about $4.9 billion at July9. If its growth over the next year falls below revenue growth, the backlog is being stretched rather than filled.
