The Revenue LinesWide moat

Amphenol (APH) — moat facet

Amphenol's three segments reconcile exactly to its sales; Communications Solutions went from 47% of the total in 2020 to 61.5% in mid-2026.

Amphenol reports its sales in three segments, and they add up exactly to the total. In 2025 net sales of $23,094.7 million were Communications Solutions $12,056.0 million, Harsh Environment Solutions $5,881.7 million and Interconnect and Sensor Systems $5,157.0 million1, or 52%, 26% and 22%2. These are the bands of this company's chart, on the basis adopted on 1 January 2022, with 2020 and 2021 recast in the 2022 10-K3.

The company does not report by product. "As the Company is not organized by product or group of products, it is impracticable to disclose net sales by product or group of products"4. The segments are the only revenue lines there are. Segment assets are not disclosed either; the chief operating decision maker reviews assets "on a consolidated basis"5.

The three bands are external sales. Sales between segments, $283.9 million in 20256, are eliminated. Segment operating income, $6,293.1 million in 2025, exceeds consolidated operating income of $5,868.6 million because stock compensation, inventory step-ups, acquisition costs and other items are kept at corporate7.

Before 2022 the company reported two segments, Interconnect Products and Assemblies and Cable Products and Solutions8; the old series is not spliced in.

The lines have diverged. From 2020 to 2025 Communications Solutions grew 24.3% a year, Harsh Environment Solutions 20.8% and Interconnect and Sensor Systems 18.0%9. Communications Solutions was 47% of 2020 sales and 52% of 2025's10, and 61.5% in the June 2026 quarter11.

The old reporting shows how different the pieces once were. Before 2022 the company had two segments; the smaller, Cable Products and Solutions, sold $445.4 million to outside customers in 2021 and earned $22.8 million12, a 5.1% margin13. Its businesses now sit inside Communications Solutions14. Sales between the new segments were $283.9 million in 2025: $104.6 million from Communications Solutions, $120.2 million from Harsh Environment Solutions and $59.1 million from Interconnect and Sensor Systems15. In the June 2026 quarter the three lines sold $5,383.6 million, $1,856.8 million and $1,517.7 million16. In the first half, Communications Solutions sold $9,918.3 million17.

The one down year showed how differently the lines behave. In 2023 Communications Solutions fell 13.1%, while Harsh Environment Solutions rose 13.6% and Interconnect and Sensor Systems 6.4%18. Net sales fell only 0.5%19. The chart's bands are that insurance at work, and the growing weight of the first band is the insurance thinning. Capital follows the same order. Segment depreciation and amortisation was $486.9 million in Communications Solutions, $166.5 million in Harsh Environment Solutions and $150.0 million in Interconnect and Sensor Systems in 202520. All three lines grew in both 2024 and 202521.

A Communications Solutions share above 65% would make the other two lines a tail; its share falling while total sales still grow would say the AI boom had passed its peak.
