Cash That Keeps Up With ProfitWide moat

Amphenol (APH) — moat facet

Amphenol turned 103% of its 2025 net income into free cash, the check that its profits are real.

The simplest check on reported profit is whether the cash arrives, and at Amphenol it mostly does. Free cash flow was $2,159.9 million in 2023 against net income of $1,928.0 million, $2,156.9 million against $2,424.0 million in 2024, and about $4.4 billion against $4,270.3 million in 202512. That is 112.0%, 89.0% and 102.9% of net income3.

About a dollar of free cash for each dollar of profit, lower in the fastest quarter.

The fourth quarter of 2025 was stronger still: operating cash flow of $1.7 billion was 144% of net income, and free cash flow of $1.5 billion was 123%4. A connector maker that ships product and collects within a couple of months should convert close to all its earnings, and this one does.

The reason is the light capital needed. Capital spending ran at 3.0% to 4.4% of sales from 2021 to 20255, so most of what the business earns is left over after it has maintained and expanded itself. Operating cash flow rose from $1,030.5 million in 2015 to $5,374.7 million in 20256, 5.2 times7.

Growth tests conversion, because a fast-growing business ties up cash in stock and receivables before it collects. In the June 2026 quarter operating cash flow was $1.6 billion, 88% of net income, and free cash flow $1.2 billion, 68%8. That is lower, and it is exactly what a quarter with sales up 55%9 should look like.

Working capital behaved well through the 2025 surge. Days sales outstanding were 66 at the end of 2025 against 68 a year earlier, and inventory days 77 against 8010, even though sales rose by half. By 30 June 2026 receivables had reached $6,790.1 million and inventories $4,551.6 million, against $4,717.1 million and $3,424.9 million six months earlier11, partly because CommScope's arrived with the business. Cash paid for interest rose to $288.1 million in 202512, and conversion still held above 100% of net income13.

If free cash flow for 2026 comes in below 80% of net income, with sales growth easing, the gap would say that something other than growth, such as slower-paying customers or stock building ahead of demand, is absorbing the cash.

Moat trajectory: Holding steady

FCF 102.9% of net income in 2025; 68% in the fast-growing Q2 2026.

The number that tests this moat
Reported
Free cash flow as a share of net income, latest quarter
68% (Q2 2026: $1.2bn against $1,769.2M)

Whether the profit arrives as cash; below 80% for a full year of slower growth would mean it is being absorbed.
