$14.3 Billion of Debt, $5.2 Billion NetNarrow moat
Netflix (NFLX) — moat facet
Netflix carries only $5.2 billion of net debt, which let it line up $59 billion of bridge loans for Warner Bros..
Netflix's balance sheet is conservative for a company of its size. Debt was $14,309 million at 30 June 2026 against cash of $9,099 million1, and the company's net debt was $5,244 million2. At the end of 2025 net debt was about 0.20 times equity3.
The debt is long and fixed. Netflix's senior notes are "in twelve tranches due between 2026 and 2054"4, and the company describes itself as having a "solid investment grade rating"5.
That strength was demonstrated in December 2025, when Netflix lined up $59 billion of bridge loans to buy Warner Bros. 6, later raising the bridge to $42.2 billion after other financing7. A company with a weak balance sheet could not have made the offer.
The flexibility is part of the moat: it lets Netflix buy content, rights or companies when others cannot.
Netflix also has undrawn liquidity: a $3 billion revolving credit facility to 2029 and a $3 billion commercial paper programme8. During the Warner Bros. attempt it arranged a further $5 billion revolver and $20 billion of delayed-draw term loans, all cancelled when the deal ended9.
Net debt is the gauge. At about $5.2 billion it is less than a year of free cash flow; a rise above $20 billion would mean the company has chosen leverage over flexibility.
Net debt $5.2bn at 30 June 2026.
The borrowing room; a rise above $20bn would mean flexibility traded for leverage.
