⚠ Capital Spending Up 57%Low threat
Netflix (NFLX) — threat to the moat
Netflix's capital spending rose 57% in 2025 as it built venues, ad technology and live production, and it is still small.
Netflix's capital spending is small but growing quickly. Purchases of property and equipment rose from $349 million in 2023 to $440 million in 2024 and $688 million in 20251, 57% in the last year2.
Part of it is new ventures: Netflix has opened Netflix Houses in Dallas and King of Prussia3, physical venues that need buildings rather than servers. Part is technology for advertising, live streaming and production.
None of this threatens the balance sheet; free cash flow was $9,461 million in 20254. The risk is gradual: a company whose appeal is converting nearly all its profit into cash becomes a more ordinary capital spender.
Tudum, the company's fan site, drew 232 million visits in 20255, one sign that Netflix is building a brand business beyond the screen, and the venues are the physical form of that ambition. They are also a different kind of asset from software and servers: buildings that must be run and filled.
The line to watch is capital spending against free cash flow. At about 7% in 20256 it is trivial; if it passes 15%, the business will have changed character.
