Eye Care: The Allergan Business That ShrinksThin moat

AbbVie (ABBV) — moat facet

Allergan's eye-care drugs have shrunk every year under AbbVie, and in 2026 AbbVie stopped reporting them separately.

Not every Allergan business has worked. Eye Care, the glaucoma and dry-eye drugs Allergan was known for, sold $2,701 million in 2022, $2,415 million in 2023, $2,242 million in 2024 and $2,109 million in 2025123. From 2026 AbbVie no longer reports it separately, folding it into all other revenue4.

Shrinking and now folded away.

The products are ageing. Ozurdex sold $493 million in 2025, the Lumigan and Ganfort glaucoma drugs $410 million, Alphagan and Combigan $197 million, and other eye care products $1,009 million5. Several face generic competition.

The business shows the limits of buying a franchise. Allergan brought AbbVie Botox and a neuroscience portfolio worth building on; it also brought product lines that were already past their peak.

Eye care is a small and shrinking part of AbbVie, about 3.4% of 2025 revenue6. Its decline is a drag, not a threat.

Restasis, once Allergan's large dry-eye drug, is now folded into other eye care in AbbVie's 10-K7, a sign of how far it has fallen. The eye-care decline is small against AbbVie's size, but it is a reminder that part of what AbbVie bought with Allergan was already past its peak.

The decision to stop reporting eye care separately in 20268 is itself a verdict: AbbVie no longer considers it a line worth showing investors on its own.

The number that matters is the all-other line that now contains it: $1,109 million in the second quarter of 20269, and a steady decline there is the expected shape of an ageing portfolio.
