PowerWide moat
GE Vernova (GEV) — moat facet
GE Vernova's Power segment is two thirds services and earns three quarters of its segment EBITDA.
Power is GE Vernova's largest segment and its biggest earner, and it is mostly a service business. Revenue was $19,767 million in 20251, 52% of total revenue2, and segment EBITDA $2,902 million, a 14.7% margin3. Services were $13,081 million of it and equipment $6,686 million4.
Inside the segment, gas dominates. Gas Power revenue was $16,006 million in 2025, Steam Power $1,937 million, Nuclear Power $1,018 million and Hydro Power $806 million5. Gas Power offers heavy-duty and aeroderivative gas turbines and services6. From January 2026 Steam was folded into the other three units7, and the Power segment has a new chief executive, Eric Gray, who also runs Gas Power8.
The segment has the longest history on a GE Vernova basis, back to the 2021 carve-out. Revenue was $16,729 million in 2021, $16,124 million in 2022, $17,436 million in 2023 and $18,127 million in 2024910: slow growth, about 4.3% a year11, because the shrinking steam business offset gas. The EBITDA margin went from 8.4% in 2021 to 14.7% in 20251213.
It is paid in two ways. Equipment is sold on large contracts with progress payments that reserve factory slots14; services are billed through long-term agreements, about 1,800 of them on gas turbines15, and through individual outages and upgrades.
The outlook is the strongest in the company. Power holds $111,649 million of backlog16, gas turbine orders were 173 units in 202517, and 2026 guidance calls for 18%-20% organic growth at a 17%-19% EBITDA margin18, with 22% targeted for 202819. In the second quarter of 2026 revenue was $5,477 million and EBITDA $1,031 million, 18.8%20.
The units inside the segment are moving in opposite directions. Gas Power grew from $12,087 million in 2021 to $16,006 million in 2025, while Steam Power fell from $3,270 million to $1,937 million2122. Gas turbine orders by type show where the money is going: 110 heavy-duty units in 2025, against 68 in 2024 and 41 in 2023, of which 43, 25 and 8 were the HA class23.
The Power segment's first half of 2026 showed the margin climbing. Revenue was $10,449 million and EBITDA $1,842 million24, a margin of 17.6%25, compared with 14.7% for the whole of 2025. The second quarter at 18.8% was the best of the three.
What would change the verdict is the margin failing to rise as the new, better-priced turbines ship. A 2026 Power margin below 17% would say the queue has not converted into profit.
EBITDA margin 8.4% (2021) to 14.7% (2025) to 18.8% (Q2 2026).
The main engine; a 2026 margin below the 17% guide floor would mean the queue is not converting.
