GE Vernova (GEV) — moat facet

GE Vernova names no customer and discloses no concentration, but its backlog leans on gas-turbine buyers and a new class of first-time data-centre customers.

GE Vernova does not name its customers and discloses no customer concentration. The FY2025 10-K, the Q2 2026 10-Q and the 2024 information statement contain no statement that any customer accounts for 10% or more of revenue1. Revenue is spread across utilities, independent power producers, grid operators and developers in many countries: the United States was $17,341 million of 2025 revenue, Europe $7,594 million, the Middle East and Africa $5,389 million, Asia $4,629 million and the other Americas $3,116 million2.

Less than half from the home market.

Revenue concentration and backlog concentration tell different stories. Revenue looks diversified. The backlog is concentrated by product: the Power segment held $111,649 million of the $176,284 million total at June 20263, 63.3%4. And the queue behind it rests partly on 63 gigawatts of slot reservations5 whose holders are not named.

The customers have also changed. The 10-K now names "nontraditional customers, such as hyperscalers" among its counterparties6, and data-centre orders in the grid business exceeded $5 billion in the first half of 20267.

The customers who have cost GE Vernova most are not the largest but the most troubled: offshore wind developers, with whom the company has fought and settled.

The customers are also the source of most of the working capital. Customer deposits rose by $8,019 million in 20258, while current receivables rose from $8,177 million to $9,803 million9. Customer deposits at year-end were about 2.6 times what customers owed10, which is the opposite of the usual pattern for an equipment maker and a sign of who holds the leverage in the relationship at present.

The US tax picture follows the customers. The United States provided 45.6% of revenue but only $78 million of 2025 pre-tax income1112, because the American businesses include most of Wind's losses. As data-centre and utility customers in the United States order more gas and grid equipment, that mix should shift.

The customer base is narrow in quality and stable. The American share of revenue, 45.6% in 202513, is the figure to watch; a rise driven by a few data-centre buyers would turn a diversified base into a concentrated one.
