116 Gigawatts Promised Against 20 a YearNarrow moat

GE Vernova (GEV) — moat facet

GE Vernova has 116 gigawatts of gas turbines promised against factories that will make 20 gigawatts a year, a queue almost six years long.

GE Vernova's gas turbine factories are sold out for years. At 30 June 2026 it had 53 gigawatts of gas turbine backlog and 63 gigawatts of slot reservation agreements1, 116 gigawatts combined2. Nine months earlier, at the end of September 2025, the combined figure had been 62 gigawatts3.

Gas turbine backlog plus slot reservations (GW)62Q3 202583Q4 2025100Q1 2026116Q2 2026GE Vernova results releases Q4 2025 to Q2 2026
Nearly doubled in nine months.

Against that, the company expects to reach 20 gigawatts of annual gas turbine output in the third quarter of 2026, 24 gigawatts in 2028, and is implementing actions to produce 30 gigawatts in 20304. At 20 gigawatts a year the combined queue is about 5.8 years of output5.

A queue that long changes who has the leverage. A customer who needs a turbine by 2029 must reserve a slot now and pay to hold it, which is why GE Vernova collects progress payments "to generally reserve production slots"6. Rivals face the same demand, as the pages on Bloom Energy and Vistra describe from the buyer's side, but GE Vernova's queue is the one this company controls.

The target is higher again: at least 125 gigawatts of backlog and slot reservations by the end of 20267, raised from 110 gigawatts in April8.

The slot reservations have grown fastest. They were 29 gigawatts at the end of September 2025, 43 at the end of the year, 56 in March 2026 and 63 in June91011. Firm backlog grew from 33 to 53 gigawatts over the same period1213, so reservations have been converting into orders while new ones replace them.

The combined figure is the one to follow each quarter. It went 62, 83, 100, 116141516; a quarter in which it falls would mean customers are giving back slots faster than new ones are reserved.

Moat trajectory: Widening
