✦ Four Percent Growth by the Fourth QuarterNarrow moat
Verizon (VZ) — the future bets
Verizon promises about 4% growth in its main revenue measure by the fourth quarter of 2026, a measure that includes the Frontier fibre business it bought in January.
The turnaround has a date on it. Verizon's July 2026 guidance calls for mobility and broadband service revenue to grow "2.5 to 3.0 percent" for the year, with the third quarter to "approach 3.0 percent" and the fourth quarter to be "approximately 4.0 percent"1. In the June quarter it reached "approximately $23.4 billion, representing a 2.8 percent increase year-over-year"2.
The measure is new. It "primarily includes revenue from mobility communication services, fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband, Fios internet and other fiber-based services"3, and it was $90,863 million on the recast 2025 basis45. It includes Frontier's fibre revenue from January 2026, so part of the acceleration is purchased.
The guidance has been raised twice. Adjusted EPS was guided at "$4.90 to $4.95" in January6 and at "$4.99 to $5.04, or year-over-year growth of 6.0 to 7.0 percent" in July7. Free cash flow is guided at $21,940 million to $22,140 million8.
What the guidance does not include is growth in the old core: wireless service revenue "will be approximately flat in 2026"9. The acceleration comes from broadband and from buying Frontier, not from the phone business.
The guided free cash flow of $21,940 million to $22,140 million10 is the other half of the promise, and it depends less on revenue. The original January guide called it "$21.5 billion or more" and "the highest free cash flow 1 generated since 2020"11, when it was $23,576 million12.
Anything under 3.5% in the fourth quarter would say the promised acceleration was mostly the Frontier consolidation, not the turnaround.
Guidance raised twice; Q4 2026 guided at about 4.0%.
The turnaround's own test; below 3.5% in Q4 would mean the acceleration was mostly Frontier.
