Outside America: 27% of Product SalesNarrow moat
Amgen (AMGN) — moat facet
Amgen sells 27% of its products abroad, mostly to government health systems, and the gap between those prices and American ones is what most-favoured-nation rules would close.
About a quarter of Amgen's product sales come from outside the United States. In 2025 they were $9,492 million of $35,148 million1, 27.0%2, and in the second quarter of 2026 $2,547 million of $9,537 million3. Approximately 13,000 of Amgen's 31,500 staff work outside the United States4.
The foreign business is a different mix of drugs. Some products are sold mostly abroad: in the second quarter of 2026, $129 million of AMJEVITA's $155 million and all $61 million of WEZLANA were sold outside the United States5, as was $258 million of Aranesp's $352 million6. Others are almost entirely American: ENBREL sold $574 million at home and $6 million abroad7.
The split matters because of where prices are highest. Amgen earns 73% of its product sales in America8, and has agreed to meet the administration's most-favoured-nation pricing requests9, which tie American prices to those paid abroad. The foreign business is therefore also the benchmark the American one may be priced against.
The receivables are shifting home: 21% of net trade receivables were due from customers outside the United States at the end of 2025, against 26% a year earlier10.
The foreign share is the figure to track. If it rises well above 27% because American sales fall rather than because foreign sales grow, it will be the signature of American price pressure, not of international success.
Foreign share steady at about 27%.
The price gap exposure; a share rising because American sales fall would signal price pressure at home.
