The market has changed its mind about Johnson & Johnson faster than the earnings have changed. At the end of 2024 the company was worth $348.19 billion1, about 14.4 times that year's adjusted net earnings of $24,242 million23. On 24 September 2026 it was worth $652.05 billion4, up 87% in less than two years5, and the share price of $270.57 is about 24.5 times the 2026 adjusted EPS guidance midpoint of $11.0467.

The multiple rose faster than the earnings.

Some of that re-rating is earned. J&J came through the Stelara cliff with sales growing, talc moved toward a fixed settlement, and guidance was raised twice in 2026 before the July deals8. A company that proved its replacement machine deserves a higher multiple than one that had not yet been tested.

What the price does not seem to allow for is the next three years of the income statement. Adjusted EPS guidance for 2026 is now only about 2.3% above 2025 at the midpoint9. The Firefly and Sail transactions are expected to reduce 2027 adjusted EPS by approximately $1.3610. The talc proposal requires up to $3 billion in 202711. And Darzalex, 15.0% of revenue, loses its core United States patents in 202912.

The trailing GAAP multiple of about 3113 overstates the price, because it excludes the 2025 talc reversal from earnings; the adjusted multiple of about 24.5 is the fairer one. Even so, 24.5 times earnings growing 2% this year is a price for the end-of-decade ambition rather than the business as it stands. Analysts' average target of $277.9114 is barely 3% above the share price15.

There is a case the other way. The trailing twelve months to June 2026 produced $97,929 million of sales161718, and the company expects more than $100 billion in 2026 for the first time19. If the double-digit ambition is met, today's multiple will look reasonable in hindsight. The point is that the market has already given J&J credit for meeting it.

The verdict is that the market is paying in advance for the double-digit growth J&J has promised by 2030. The number that will test it arrives in January 2027: adjusted EPS guidance for 2027. Guidance at or below $11.04, after the $1.36 of deal dilution, would leave the stock priced for growth the income statement is not yet showing.
