What Fifteen Hundred People BuildNarrow moat
XTB (XTB) — moat facet
Fifteen hundred people run a trading platform, a market-making book, nine regulators and fifteen countries - and are now the smaller half of the budget.
XTB employed 1 516 people at the end of 2025, against 1 245 a year earlier, a rise of 22 per cent in a year when revenue rose 15 per cent.1 Salaries and employee benefits cost 413 million złoty, up 33 per cent.2
Set against the output that is a small organisation. Fifteen hundred people run a proprietary trading platform, a mobile application, a market-making book, nine regulatory relationships, fifteen offices, a Cash ISA, three retirement-account regimes and a marketing operation spending more than half a billion złoty a year.3 Revenue per employee was 1,42 million złoty in 2025 and 2,70 million annualised on the first half of 2026, when headcount reached 1 548.4
The structural fact underneath is what changed in the cost base. In 2019 salaries were 86 million złoty against marketing of 38 million: the biggest thing XTB spent money on was the people who built the product. In 2025 marketing was 585 million against salaries of 413. Somewhere in the intervening six years this became a company that spends more on being noticed than on being built, which is the ordinary trajectory of a consumer business and a real change in character for a technology one.
The engineering is still the differentiator, and it is now the smaller half of the budget.
Marketing divided by salaries: 0,44 in 2019, 1,11 in 2024, 1,42 in 2025, 1,76 in the first half of 2026.5 That ratio has moved in one direction for six years.6
Headcount rose 22 per cent in 2025 while revenue rose 15, so revenue per employee fell for the second consecutive year, to 1,42 million złoty from 1,54 in 2023. Marketing is now 1,76 times the entire payroll.
Marketing cost 585 million złoty in 2025 against salaries of 413 million, and 436 million against 247 million in the first half of 2026. In 2019 the figures were 38 million and 86 million. Headcount reached 1 516 at the end of 2025 and 1 548 six months later, and revenue per employee fell for a second year to 1,42 million złoty. The company now spends more on being noticed than on being built.
