⚠ A Wrapper Is PortableModerate threat

XTB (XTB) — threat to the moat

The tax benefit belongs to the client, transfers in specie, and every rival offers the identical container.

The switching cost in a tax wrapper is real but frequently overstated, because in most of these regimes the account can be transferred in specie rather than closed. A British ISA can be moved to another provider without losing its tax status, and the transfer is a form.1 A Polish retirement account can be moved between institutions with the accumulated benefit preserved, subject to timing rules. The friction is weeks of administration and a small charge, not the forfeiture the phrase "tax penalty" implies.

Assets per client is the number a wrapper is supposed to move.

More to the point, none of these containers is proprietary. Every Polish bank and brokerage offers an IKE.2 Every British platform offers an ISA, and the Cash ISA is a long-standing statutory product sold by banks and building societies as well as brokers, with brand recognition, branch networks and interest rates that XTB will have to match.3 Offering the same government wrapper as everyone else is table stakes rather than differentiation; XTB is late to it, not early.

The competitive answer, if there is one, has to be price and product breadth inside the wrapper rather than the wrapper itself — free share dealing up to 100 000 euros of turnover, fractional shares, 1 900 exchange-traded funds, investment plans from 50 złoty.4 All of which are also copyable, and several of which XTB's rivals introduced first.

What would prove the wrapper is working is a rise in assets per client rather than in total assets, since total assets are currently rising because the client count is. Client instruments were 12 600 złoty per client at the end of 2025 and 15 300 six months later.5
