⚠ These Earnings Have Never RepeatedHigh threat
XTB (XTB) — threat to the moat
Thirteen and a half times earnings sounds cheap until you notice the denominator contains the two best quarters in the company's history.
XTB earned 1 027 million złoty in the first half of 2026, more than in the whole of 2025, and the number of contracts its clients traded fell 1,8 per cent over the same period.1 That is not a growth rate. It is the record of a market that moved in a way the customers were wrong about.
The mechanism is disclosed every quarter and is unusually clear. Revenue is contracts traded multiplied by the profit on each. In the eight quarters to June 2026 contracts moved by a factor of 1,6 and profit per contract by a factor of 3,2, from 152 złoty a lot in the third quarter of 2025 to 484 in the second quarter of 2026.2 Across those quarters the correlation between volume and revenue was 0,25; between margin per contract and revenue, 0,92.3 Nothing about XTB's product, pricing or client base explains the difference. The mix of instruments traded and the direction the clients took do.
The composition of the good half says the same thing more bluntly. Gross gain on commodity contracts was 1 555 million złoty against 380 million a year earlier, a factor of four, while indices fell 46 per cent and currencies 42.4 The gross-gain mix went from 46 per cent indices to 75 per cent commodities in twelve months.5 XTB did not cause any of that and cannot repeat it on demand.
The annual series is the fair benchmark. Profitability per lot has been 140, 249, 144, 212, 227, 275 and 215 złoty across 2019 to 2025.6 The middle of that range is a normal year, and the first half of 2026 ran at more than double it.7
Which is why 14 times earnings is not a bargain.8 The denominator contains the two best quarters this company has ever printed, and the analyst consensus for 2027 has revenue growing 4,4 per cent from a 2026 that itself assumes the second half is weaker than the first.9
The number to watch is profitability per lot. A return to the 215 złoty average of 2025, on the same volumes, takes trailing earnings down by more than half.10
Revenue is contracts traded multiplied by the margin on each. Across eight quarters the margin ranged from 152 złoty a lot to 484, a factor of 3,2, while volume moved by 1,6. In the first half of 2026 operating income rose 79,7 per cent while contracts traded fell 1,8 per cent. The annual series is the fair benchmark: 140, 249, 144, 212, 227, 275 and 215 złoty across 2019 to 2025. A return to 215 on the same volumes takes trailing earnings down by more than half, and the shares trade at 13,5 times a trailing period containing the two best quarters in the company's history.
