The Revenue LinesNarrow moat
Citigroup (C) — moat facet
Citi's revenue is spread across five businesses, but one of them, Services, earns most of the profit.
Citi reports five businesses and a sixth segment it is winding down. In 2025 Services earned $22,636 million, Markets $22,409 million, Banking $6,384 million, Wealth $11,272 million and U.S. Consumer Cards $18,258 million1. All Other, on the basis used in this app's chart, earned $4,266 million2. The six add to Citi's reported revenue of $85,225 million3.
The chart covers 2021 to 2025 on the segment basis Citi adopted in the first quarter of 2026 and restated in April 20264. That recast moved the retail bank into Wealth, created U.S. Consumer Cards, and moved corporate-lending revenue from Banking to Services and Markets5. Before 2021 Citi reported different segments, which are not comparable.
Revenue itself has been restated. From 2025 Citi reports certain processing fees paid to card networks as a reduction of revenue6, so 2024 revenue was $81,139 million as first reported and $80,722 million on the current basis78. Net income was unchanged. The app uses the latest restated figure for each year.
The All Other band adds Citi's divestiture reconciling items to its managed All Other revenue, so that the six bands sum exactly to reported revenue.
Profit is less evenly spread than revenue. Of the income the five businesses earned from continuing operations in 2025, Services made about 41%9. All Other lost money.
The mix has moved in four years. Services grew from $12,539 million in 2021 to $22,636 million in 2025, while Banking fell from $8,026 million to $6,384 million10. All Other on the chart basis fell from $8,821 million to $4,266 million, about half11. Citi grew by adding to its best business and shrinking its worst.
Stripping out the businesses being sold makes the growth plainer. Citi's Investor Day put revenue excluding Legacy Franchises and reconciling items at $66.6 billion in 2022 and $79.9 billion in 2025, about 6% a year12, against reported revenue of $75.0 billion and $85.2 billion13.
Citi's Investor Day outlook has net interest income excluding Markets up ~5-6%14, and non-interest revenue driven by fees in Services, Banking and Wealth15.
The share to watch is Services. It was about 27% of revenue in 202516; if it passed a third while All Other shrank, the firm would look like the franchise at its centre.
Services from about 18% (2021) to about 27% (2025) of revenue.
How much of Citi is its best business; above a third would mean the firm was converging on the franchise.
