Four Polish hospitals now have surgeons trained on Medtronic's robot as well.

Training builds loyalty; it does not forbid a surgeon from learning another system. Medtronic's Hugo was first used clinically in Poland on 9 December 2024 and was installed in four hospitals by October 20251. The surgeons at those hospitals are learning a second console, and the next tender there will have two systems with trained users.

The rivals are designed to lower the barrier. Hugo has modular arms and an open 3D console2; Versius's mobile arms can be installed in operating rooms without special modifications, including in district hospitals3.

The da Vinci's installed base remains far larger, with robots in more than 70 Polish hospitals4, and each new certified surgeon on Synektik's side of the market adds to the distance. But hospitals that have two systems can play them against each other in the next purchase.

The rivals also compete for the hospitals the da Vinci has not reached. Versius is designed to be deployed in district hospitals as well as large clinical centres5, and the Hugo sites include the district hospital in Bolesławiec, whose director said the technology had until recently been the preserve of academic clinics6.

Hugo's four sites7 are the starting count of hospitals running a second make of robot. Each addition is a tender Synektik will fight on price.
