No Client Above Ten PercentWide moat
IBM (IBM) — moat facet
No IBM client reaches 10% of revenue, so no buyer can set its prices, which is safe and slow at the same time.
IBM has no customer large enough to name. Its annual report states that "No single client represented 10 percent or more of the company's total revenue in 2025, 2024 or 2023"1. IBM operates in more than 175 countries2, and total revenue was $67,535 million in 20253.
That is the opposite of many companies in this app. Nvidia's largest direct customer was 22% of its revenue in fiscal 20264, and CoreWeave's largest customer about two-thirds of its 2025 revenue5; IBM's largest is below 10%. No single buyer can set IBM's prices or its revenue trend.
The absence of concentration has a cost. It is a sign that IBM sells a broad portfolio to many buyers rather than a dominant product to a few, and broad portfolios tend to grow slowly. Revenue grew 7.6% in 202567, the best year in the recent series, after 1.4% in 20248.
The diversification is also by product. A bank may buy mainframes, Transaction Processing software, Red Hat subscriptions and consulting from IBM at once, and each purchase has its own renewal date.
The breadth has held through large changes. IBM's revenue attributed to clients in the United States was $25,309 million in 2023, $25,144 million in 2024 and $26,892 million in 20259, and in 2024 the Americas fell 1.3% while the United States fell 0.5%10. No single client drove either year. A company this diversified cannot be hurt badly by losing a customer; it can be hurt only by losing many at once.
What would change this page is disclosure of a large client. IBM names none today; a future filing that reported one at 10% would mean the diversification that protects its revenue had narrowed.
No client at 10% in 2023-2025.
Growth across a base with no large client; a slowdown to 2024's 1.4% would show how slowly a diversified portfolio grows.
