⚠ Organic Growth From Seven Percent to OneHigh threat

Procter & Gamble (PG) — threat to the moat

P&G's organic growth has fallen from 7% to 1% in three years, and its own guidance promises little recovery.

P&G's growth has slowed every year for three years. Organic sales rose 7% in fiscal 2022 and fiscal 2023, 4% in fiscal 2024, 2% in fiscal 2025 and 1% in fiscal 20261. In the June 2026 quarter organic sales were unchanged, with volume, price and mix all flat2. Of the last eight quarters, two had no organic growth at all3.

From 16% to nothing in two years.

The slowdown has two causes that compound. Price, which added 4% in fiscal 2024, has added only 1% a year since45, and volume has been flat throughout6. When a mature consumer company can neither raise prices nor sell more, its growth falls to zero.

Earnings followed. Core EPS growth was 12% in fiscal 2024, 4% in fiscal 2025 and 1% in fiscal 2026; on a currency-neutral basis it was 16%, 4% and 0%7. Fiscal 2027 guidance is organic growth of 1% to 3% and core EPS growth of 0% to 3%8.

P&G's defence is that its categories themselves are growing slowly and that it is holding share: 26 of its top 50 category and country combinations held or grew share in fiscal 20269. But global aggregate value share was slightly down10, so P&G is not quite keeping pace even with slow markets.

The fiscal 2026 plan itself was missed at the midpoint. In July 2025 P&G guided organic growth of flat to 4% and core EPS of $6.83 to $7.09, a midpoint of $6.9611; it delivered 1% and $6.8912. Quarterly organic growth across the last eight quarters ran 2%, 3%, 1%, 2%, 2%, 0%, 3% and 0%13, so the slowdown is not one bad quarter but a gradual settling.

This is the most important threat to the thesis because P&G's valuation assumes growth, even if modest. The number that decides it is annual organic growth: another year at or below 1% would make the 7% years look like inflation rather than strength, and one back at 3% or better would say the slowdown was a pause.
