Fifty-Two Percent Outside AmericaNarrow moat
Procter & Gamble (PG) — moat facet
More than half of P&G's sales are outside the United States, which spreads customer risk and adds a currency risk that has cost it three market exits.
P&G is an American company that makes most of its sales elsewhere. United States net sales were $41.7 billion in fiscal 2026 and international sales $45.3 billion1, so about 52% of sales came from abroad2. The company says operations outside the United States generate more than 50% of its annual net sales3.
The largest markets outside the United States are Greater China, the UK, Canada, Japan and Germany, which together make up about 21% of net sales4. P&G sells in about 180 countries and territories and has operations in about 655.
The geography spreads customer risk, because no foreign retailer is anywhere near Walmart's weight, but it adds currency risk. Foreign exchange added about $224 million to net earnings in fiscal 20266 and 2 points to net sales growth7; in fiscal 2025 it subtracted 1 point, and in fiscal 2024, 2 points89. P&G has also left several markets, including Argentina, Nigeria and Pakistan10.
Russia remains, at about 1% of sales, earnings and net assets, and P&G says it may reduce further or discontinue its operations there11.
The international figures move with currency. International net sales were $43.5 billion in fiscal 2024, $42.7 billion in fiscal 2025 and $45.3 billion in fiscal 202612, a dip and a recovery that follow exchange rates as much as demand.
In short, international reach is part of the moat and part of the risk. The number to follow is the international share of sales, about 52% in fiscal 202613; a fall driven by currency rather than exits would mean the dollar is eroding the value of P&G's foreign franchises.
International about 52% of sales; FX +2pts in FY2026 after -1 and -2.
The currency exposure behind the brands; a currency-driven fall would mean foreign franchises worth less in dollars.
