Nvidia (NVDA) — the future bets
No qubits, no favorites — Nvidia wires every quantum contender into its GPUs so the winner, whoever it is, arrives pre-attached.
Nvidia's quantum strategy is the Switzerland strategy: build no qubits, pick no winning modality, and instead wire every contender into your GPUs. NVQLink, introduced in late 2025, connects quantum processors to Nvidia's accelerated computing with seventeen quantum builders and nine national laboratories signed on at launch1. By GTC 2026 the interface was public in CUDA-Q, and partners like Quantinuum were using it for the field's hardest real-time job — decoding quantum errors on GPUs fast enough to correct them mid-computation2.
The logic rhymes with everything else on this page: whoever wins quantum — trapped ions, superconductors, photonics, silicon spins — the winner's machine will need classical supercomputing bolted alongside, and Nvidia intends to be the bolt. It is the cheapest option Nvidia holds and the furthest from money; useful quantum advantage remains years out on every roadmap, including the optimists'. The measure of progress is architectural: watch whether GPU-quantum hybrids become the default design for every serious quantum lab — each new NVQLink adopter is another future customer wired in years before the market exists.
Holding steady by design: NVQLink wires the whole quantum field into Nvidia's GPUs without betting on a winner, and adoption is broad but pre-commercial. The option costs little and pays nothing yet — stability is the honest description of a market that doesn't exist.
Quantum earns Nvidia nothing yet; the bet is that quantum machines will need GPUs beside them. The adopter count growing is the leading indicator; the builders shipping their own classical controllers instead would undercut it.
