ITOCHU (8001) — the future bets

ITOCHU is buying half of an aircraft lessor to reach ¥50 billion of aerospace profit in five years.

In August 2026 ITOCHU agreed to acquire 50% of Aviation Capital Group, an aircraft lessor, through Tokyo Century's subsidiary, for a planned investment of about US$1,946 million12. It set a target of ¥50.0 billion of aerospace profit in around five years3. ITOCHU already leases more than 90 aircraft and engines4.

A fivefold increase in aerospace profit targeted.

Tokyo Century, in which ITOCHU holds 29.9%, contributed ¥39.6 billion in the latest year5, and the Machinery division's aerospace business ¥10.4 billion6. The ACG stake would make aircraft leasing a significant part of the division.

Aircraft leasing is a financing business: the lessor borrows, buys aircraft and leases them to airlines. With new aircraft in short supply, lease rates have been strong.

ITOCHU also committed ¥10 billion to Tokyo Century bond-type class shares as part of the arrangement7.

The measure is progress toward ¥50.0 billion. At about ¥310 billion invested, that target implies a return of about 16% on the ACG stake if all the growth came from it.
