A car with no wheel bets on a factory with no line — and on regulators certifying, and software creating, the demand the sticker price assumes.

The Cybercab is the industrial half of the autonomy wager: a two-seat vehicle with no steering wheel, pedals or side mirrors, and Tesla's first built on its 'unboxed process', which Tesla says halves the length of the production line1. The first production vehicle came off the line at Giga Texas in February 2026, formal production began in April, and by July hundreds had been spotted near the factory2. The vehicle is a manufacturing bet wearing a robotaxi's body: capacity for 125,000 a year only pays if the robotaxi network can absorb it, and in June that network's unsupervised Austin fleet numbered about 20 cars5. That circularity is the risk: Cybercab volume depends on robotaxi approvals, which depend on a safety record still measured in months. Watch the production ramp against the network's absorption rate, and whether regulators accept a car with no controls at scale — it lacks equipment federal safety standards normally require, and Tesla says it self-certified compliance6.

Widening in the industrial sense: pilot to mass production in three months on the unboxed process, pods visibly testing nationwide. The demand side still depends on robotaxi approvals the safety record hasn't yet earned — the factory is ahead of its market by design.
