⚠ Flywheels Can StallModerate threat
SpaceX (SPCX) — threat to the moat
One fleet-wide grounding freezes the entire loop.
The reuse flywheel spins beautifully until something forces it to stop. Because SpaceX flies one family of vehicles at very high cadence, a single serious failure can ground the entire fleet while the cause is found — and when you are the launch provider the whole world depends on, a pause is not a private inconvenience but a systemic one. The very standardization that makes the flywheel efficient also concentrates the risk: a flaw found in one booster is a flaw suspected in all of them. The first half of 2026 gave a mild preview: SpaceX flew 78 launches against 84 a year earlier, 38 of them in the June quarter against 46.1 History is kind to SpaceX's reliability record, but the structure of the advantage means the rare bad day is a very bad day, and the market has priced in a machine that essentially never stops — at roughly 90 times sales2.
